So. Accurate.

This

Forty thousand books.

Upset doesn’t even begin to cover it. SO MUCH ANGER AND SORROW AT WHAT WAS LOST AND WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN. SO MUCH

THIS. My professor got really emotional in Egypt class when my he was talking about it and the rest of my class was like wtf and I wanted to be like I UNDERSTAND LET US CRY TOGETHER OVER ALL THE SCROLLLLLLLSSSSS.

No. See, I sort of tune out if people talk about stuff that happened more than ten years ago for more than about five minutes. I will openly talk about my active dislike of having to engage with history. BUT THE LIBRARY. ;__; WHY? WHY? HOW COULD ANYONE DO THAT?
SO THERE IS NOT A 100% CORRELATION BETWEEN BEING A HISTORY FAN AND GETTING UPSET ABOUT THE LIBRARY, OKAY. YOUR HYPOTHESIS IS INCORRECT.

*inconsolable weeping*

SO MANY BOOKS AND SO MUCH HISTORY

*cries*

The written word serves humanity the purpose of functioning as an externalized brain. We can store all the information there that we don’t have room for in our heads. The destruction of the Library of Alexandria and its contents was the equivalent of the human species suffering a stroke during its adolescence. We had to learn to walk and talk all over again. It’s been a long and difficult period of rehabilitation. Not all parts have recovered.
